How NurseTools reviews clinical content

Last updated October 13, 2026

NurseTools is an educational app. Before any calculator, reference card or practice case reaches you, it has to pass four release gates. The app shows you where every tool stands, so you never have to guess whether something is ready.

The four release gates

  1. Source and rights audit. Every formula and reference is traced to its source and licensed for use.
  2. Clinical editorial review. A reviewer with the right specialty signs off on the content.
  3. Independent testing. Known-answer tests cover normal values, edge cases and unit mix-ups.
  4. Regulatory and App Store review. Higher-risk tools wait for the right approval route before release.

What you see on every tool

  • The formula and the units it uses, written out.
  • The sources the content is based on.
  • The version, the review status and the next review date.
  • A clear label: available now, or still in clinical review.

Which tools are available at launch

At launch, only simple arithmetic tools are available, such as body mass index (BMI) and mean arterial pressure (MAP). They show the math and units. They do not interpret results or recommend care.

Drug dosage, IV flow and drip rates, EDD and gestation, APGAR, the Parkland formula, the Glasgow Coma Scale, ABG learning, lab values, eGFR and clinical references stay locked until they clear every gate. Drug dosage tools also need the approval route that Apple requires for dosage calculators.

No payment or setting unlocks a tool that has not passed review. Safety approval comes first.

Your facility comes first

NurseTools offers general education. It does not replace your facility policies, provider orders or your local scope of practice. Choosing a care setting changes what the app shows first. It does not mean your facility has approved the content.

Corrections

Every tool and topic includes a way to report a problem. If content needs to be corrected, it is updated or withdrawn on your device the next time the app connects, and the change is listed in the in-app updates feed.
